Senior Feliz & Kato Named Jimmy John’s Lions of the Week

Mar 23, 2026

SAINT LEO, Fla. – On Monday, March 23, the Saint Leo University athletic department named student-athletes Dackjerlin Senior Feliz (women's track & field) and Kodai Kato (men's tennis) as the Jimmy John's Lions of the Week. The award is recognizing these student-athletes for their performances from March 16-22.

Freshman Dackjerlin Senior Feliz made her season debut running personal bests in both the 400m and the 800m. Splitting 58.97 in the 400, and 2:15.88 in the 800m. Feliz's 800m mark is the third fastest in NCAA DII by a freshman so far this year, and is the sixth fastest time in the Sunshine State Conference so far this season.

Kato went a perfect 3-0 in singles and 2-1 in doubles to lead #11 Saint Leo to three ranked wins. Playing at No. 4 singles, he earned two straight-set wins and clinched an SSC victory at Lynn in a 7-6, 6-7, 10-8 battle. In doubles, Kato and Jose David Segovia picked up two ranked wins at the No. 1 position, defeating the top pairs from #15 Wayne State and #41 Flagler.

For the 2025–26 season, Saint Leo University Athletics is proud to partner with Jimmy John's to present a new weekly award recognizing student-athletes. The award will recognize athletic competition held from Monday to Sunday.

Since launching in 1983 in Charleston, Illinois, with just a $25,000 loan from his father, Jimmy John Liautaud built his modest sandwich shop into the national chain known for its "Freaky Fast" delivery and fresh-baked bread. Over the years, the brand expanded rapidly, surpassing 2,600 locations nationwide by 2025 and even venturing internationally with openings in Seoul, Toronto, and Dubai. In 2019, Jimmy John's became part of Inspire Brands, the restaurant group that also owns Arby's, Dunkin' Donuts, and more.
