SAINT LEO, Fla. – On Monday, March 2, the Saint Leo University athletic department named student-athletes Abigail Hynes (softball) and Kodai Kato (men's tennis) as the Jimmy John's Lions of the Week. The award is recognizing these student-athletes for their performances from February 23 - March 1.
Freshman utility player Abigail Hynes belted her first, second, and third career home runs in Winter Park last week. The three home runs helped power #15 Softball to a three-game series sweep of the Rollins College Tars. Hynes is second on the team with three home runs and leads the team in batting average (.442), and RBI (15). Softball is now 13-2-1 overall and 6-0 in SSC play while currently riding an eight-game winning streak into a week of three doubleheaders. Tonight they take on Wilmington at 5 p.m. at Mary Cannon Cabot Stadium.
Junior
Kodai Kato went 4-0 on the week with wins over #10 Florida Southern and #1 Barry. All four matches needed just two sets to take down his opponent. The junior from Japan went two and one in doubles play as he was paired up with
Jose David Segovia all week.
For the 2025–26 season, Saint Leo University Athletics is proud to partner with Jimmy John's to present a new weekly award recognizing student-athletes. The award will recognize athletic competition held from Monday to Sunday.
Since launching in 1983 in Charleston, Illinois, with just a $25,000 loan from his father, Jimmy John Liautaud built his modest sandwich shop into the national chain known for its "Freaky Fast" delivery and fresh-baked bread. Over the years, the brand expanded rapidly, surpassing 2,600 locations nationwide by 2025 and even venturing internationally with openings in Seoul, Toronto, and Dubai. In 2019, Jimmy John's became part of Inspire Brands, the restaurant group that also owns Arby's, Dunkin' Donuts, and more.
