Sep 29, 2025

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo Athletics has named women's golf freshman Maria Jaime and men's soccer senior Anel Rojas as the latest Jimmy John's Lions of the Week honorees.

Despite, the DBU Classic being shortened due to weather conditions last week, freshman Maria Jaime turned an impressive score card for her first collegiate tournament for the Green & Gold as she placed tied for 21st among some of the nation's best golf programs. Jaime recorded a 71 (-1) in the opening round which featured three birdies before carding a 75 (+3) in the last round.

Last week, senior forward Anel Rojas collected three points in the Lions' 2-0 victory over Sunshine State Conference (SSC) counterpart, Florida Southern, on Wednesday night. Rojas gave Saint Leo a 1-0 advantage in the 41st minute off a dish from sophomore Virgilio Escala. In the second half during the 80th minute, Rojas assisted redshirt freshman Jorge Perez Rosales, giving the Lions a 2-0 lead.

For the 2025–26 season, Saint Leo University Athletics is proud to partner with Jimmy John's to present a new weekly award recognizing student-athletes. The award will recognize athletic competition held from Monday to Sunday.

Since launching in 1983 in Charleston, Illinois, with just a $25,000 loan from his father, Jimmy John Liautaud built his modest sandwich shop into the national chain known for its "Freaky Fast" delivery and fresh-baked bread. Over the years, the brand expanded rapidly, surpassing 2,600 locations nationwide by 2025 and even venturing internationally with openings in Seoul, Toronto, and Dubai. In 2019, Jimmy John's became part of Inspire Brands, the restaurant group that also owns Arby's, Dunkin' Donuts, and more.
