SAINT LEO, Fla. – On Monday, January 19, the Saint Leo University athletic department named basketball student-athletes Jailenn Green (women's basketball) and Matt Ansah (men's basketball) as the Jimmy John's Lions of the Week. The award is recognizing these student-athletes for their performances for games played from January 12-18.
Freshman Jailenn Green scored 28 points, grab four rebounds, and had one steal against Barry. Green set a new career-high with 28 points against the Bucs with extremely efficient shooting splits. The Lexington, Ky. native shot .600 from the field and three going 9-15 and 3-5 from deep, as well as a perfect 7-7 from the free throw line in 20 mins of action. She scored 16 points in the fourth quarter, Leading the team to a 16-point fourth quarter come back to defeat the Buccaneers.
For the Lions with week, Ansah averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, and 2.0 steals. On Wednesday at home against Eckerd, the Florida native posted 10 points and grabbed six boards in addition to dishing out a pair of assists and tallying two steals in 26 minutes of play. On Saturday against Barry, Ansah earned his fifth start of the season and notched a season-high 18 points on 5-of-9 shooting from the field and made eight of his 10 free throw attempts. He also set a new season benchmark with eight rebounds to go along with two steals and two assists.
For the 2025–26 season, Saint Leo University Athletics is proud to partner with Jimmy John's to present a new weekly award recognizing student-athletes. The award will recognize athletic competition held from Monday to Sunday.
