  • Jim was the imposing and capable 6-foot-6-inch center on the Saint Leo Prep School basketball team for three years, helping the team to a pair of state championships as a junior and senior
  • He set school records in the shot put and discus on the track team and won state crowns in both events
  • He was a well-rounded student, playing in the campus dance band, in the Drama Club and was a writer for the school newspaper
  • He served proudly in the United States Marines during the Korean Conflict, but was severely injured in both legs
  • Jum returned to civilian life and became a police officer in St. Petersburg, but had to leave the force when work became too dangerous and his leg injuries worsen
  • Ranching and the oil business kept him busy until he passed away in 1986
