  • Attended Saint Leo College Prep School, 1950-54
  • One of the premier student-athletes of the era at Saint Leo Prep
  • Four-year letterwinner in football, basketball, baseball, and track and field
  • Three-year starting guard for Saint Leo basketball, three-year starting third baseman on the baseball team, and three-year kicker on the football team while also playing as a lineman
  • On the baseball team, he battled in the cleanup spot with a .410 average as a junior and .453 as a senior
  • Member of Saint Leo's state championship track team as a senior, setting a school record of 129'8" in the discus and earning All-State honors in the low hurdles
  • Continued his track career at Boston College, setting a school record for most individual points earned in a single meet
  • Won over 50 tournaments as an amateur golfer, including three Florida state championships and qualifying for the 1976 U.S. Amateur Championship
