SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced the 2019 men's tennis championship tournament bracket Thursday morning. The Saint Leo Lions, ranked fourth in the latest ITA poll, advance to the conference tournament as the number three seed with a 15-7 overall record, 5-3 mark in the SSC.
Third-seed Saint Leo will meet sixth-seeded Florida Southern on Friday to open the three-day tournament. The winner will advance to face the winner of second-seed Lynn and seventh-seed Palm Beach Atlantic.
The Lions doubles are led by
Aurel Ciocanu and
Willem Van Den Akker, who are ranked twenty-third together in Wednesday's ITA national poll. The duo enters the postseason with an 8-7 record going 7-7 in doubles flight no. 1 and 1-0 in doubles flight no. 2. As a team, the Green and Gold have a 33-29 season doubles record.
In singles action,
Bruno Faletto, who was ranked thirteenth in the lmost recent ITA national poll, paces the Lions with 18-2 record at first singles. The true freshman enters the SSC postseason with a five-match win streak. He is followed in second singles by
Ghali Mensour with a 14-6 season record.
Aurel Ciocanu looks to extend a four-match win streak with a 14-6 record at the three spot, a 1-0 mark in second singles.
The SSC Championship Tournament is set to begin on Friday, April 26 at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. starting at 10:00 a.m.
