MIAMI SHORES, Fla. - The fifth ranked Saint Leo University men's tennis advanced to the second round on the NCAA Division II South Regional championship on Monday.
Dylan Andrianaly clinched the match point at number one singles to earn the 4-1 win over #9 Lee. The Lions will advance to the second round to take on the top-seed #2 Barry Buccaneers.
Lee opened the match with a win at number three doubles. Saint Leo worked its way back into doubles play with a 6-3 win at number one doubles by the second ranked doubles pair of
Jose David Segovia and
Kodai Kato. At number two doubles,
Eduardo Cohen and
Shay Sarfati clinched the doubles point with a 7-5 win.Â
The Lions used a pair of wins at singles number two and five to take a 3-0 lead. Segovia made easy work of his opponent with 6-2 and 6-0 set wins at number two singles.
Mahit Mekala earned his first NCAA tournament win with a 6-3 and 6-0 win at number five singles. After taking a singles win to cut into the Lions lead, 3-1, Andrianaly rallied from a first set loss to take a 6-1 win in the second set and a 7-5 win in the third set to clinch the match point.Â
