SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's golf team had some great moments in the first day of the Saint Leo Invitational Monday, but the Lions found themselves in the middle of the pack at the end of the day, sitting in ninth of 18 teams at Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
Freshman
Mathieu Lafontaine jumped out to a hot start, shooting a first round score of 67, tying for the second-best score of the round. The native of Montreal, Quebec, Canada finished the day with 10 birdies, the third-most in the tournament while holding the second-best average (3.79) on Par 4 courses..
Junior
Jake Nash also had an impressive first round, shooting one under with a score of 71.
The Green & Gold currently lead the tournament in total pars (101) while recording the fifth-most birdies (27).

With Round 2 suspended due to darkness, action will resume Tuesday morning at 8:30 a.m. with golfers finishing the respective round before continuing on with the final round in shotgun format.
