PETERSBURG, Va. – The Saint Leo men's golf team turned in a strong performance at the 2025 Griffin Invitational, finishing fourth overall in the 14-team field at the Country Club of Petersburg. The Lions posted a three-round total of 870 (296-285-289) and placed several golfers among the top-20 finishers.
Catawba claimed the team title with a score of 856, followed by Palm Beach Atlantic (860) and Belmont Abbey's A team (866). Saint Leo trailed closely behind at 870, edging out Valdosta State (877) and Eckerd (884).
Individually, freshman
Benjamin Morland led the Lions with a tie for 10th place after carding an even-par 216 (70-70-76). He was followed closely by senior
Enzo Barbaglia and freshman
Micke Laurelli, who both tied for 16th at 219 (+3). Junior
Nicklas Illi added a tie for 20th (220, +4), while sophomore
Ethan Keys rounded out the team scoring with a tie for 27th (222, +6).
Saint Leo also had three individuals compete. Senior
Ryan Letterly highlighted the group with a 16th-place finish at 219 (+3), while senior
Mathieu Lafontaine placed 27th at 222 (+6). Freshman
Paul Steele added a 75th-place finish at 237 (+21).
The Lions return to the links on Monday, September 22 as they compete in the first day of the Georgia Southwestern Hurricane Invitational.
