Baseball Announces 2023 Schedule

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo University baseball Head Coach Rick O'Dette officially announced the team's upcoming 50-game 2023 schedule, featuring 30 home games.

"We are excited for the 2023 season to get underway" said O'Dette.  "This schedule will be very similar to last year's and will be arguably one of the toughest in the country, again.  Offensively, we return 70% of our at bats from last year, and we return 75% of our innings on the mound.  With the bulk of last year's team back and a group of hungry newcomers, we are excited to get started."

The Lions return South Region Player of the Year Bobby Spaulding, as the All-American is joined by a trio of All-Region players in Senior utility Buck Anderson, Graduate utility Adrien Roa, and Graduate right-hander Dariel Fregio.  The Green & Gold will look to build off a memorable 36-17 season that included a berth to the NCAA South Regional tournament along with hosting duties as the region's second seed.

2023 will provide a grueling schedule for Saint Leo.  Of the 18 opponents the Green & Gold face in 2023, six teams played in the NCAA Tournament last season, with three making it to the Super Regionals and one moving on to the College World Series and finishing as a national semifinalist.

The Lions will have the ultimate home stand, playing 18 of its 21 games at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.  Travel will be minimal for the Green & Gold, as the furthest trip for Saint Leo is to Alabama for a series against Auburn Montgomery.

Saint Leo opens the season with a three-game series against Alabama-Huntsville February 3-4 before facing Rollins for midweek, non-conference action.  That weekend, the Lions host Flagler College for a series followed by a visit from Midwest Region finalist Quincy University.  The Green & Gold conclude its first stretch of home games with a single contest against Valdosta State January 21st.  Saint Leo concludes its February portion of the schedule with its Sunshine State Conference series opener at Barry.

After hosting Florida Tech the following weekend, the Lions take a break from conference play to host Wilmington (Del.) and Purdue Northwest for one game apiece along with a four-game series against Kentucky Wesleyan College.

SSC play resumes for Saint Leo March 17-18 with a trip to Daytona Beach, Fla. for its series with Embry-Riddle (Fla.) before returning home the next weekend to host Florida Southern.  Saint Leo will have a quick, non-conference game at home against Eckerd March 28th leading up to its road series against Nova Southeastern.

Following the Sharks, the Green & Gold will play a late, non-conference series against Auburn-Montgomery before returning home for a conference series against Lynn.

After the Fighting Knights, the Lions will have a challenging stretch of games from mid-April through the first weekend of May, beginning with its final, non-conference game April 18th at Valdosta State before taking on Tampa and Rollins in consecutive weekends.

Saint Leo wraps up the 2023 season at home with a series against Palm Beach Atlantic May 11-12.

The NCAA Regionals will take place a week later, as the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship will remain at the USA Baseball National Training Complex in Cary, N.C. June 3-10.
