SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team lost in its series opener against Rollins by a 6-4 margin on Friday afternoon on Pete Biscardi Field at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.

The Tars claimed an early 2-0 lead in the first following a double and a single. Saint Leo scored a run on the third as redshirt junior Camdin Jansen recorded a sacrifice-fly to bring in senior Dylan Mass. During the fifth, Jansen knocked in senior Thomas Debrower on a single to left center and tied the game 2-2. In the sixth, junior Abrahan Rios blasted his second homer of the season to left field to give the Green & Gold a 3-2 advantage.

However, in the seventh, the Tars regained the lead with a 4-3 edge. Rollins extended its lead to 6-3 following a two-run double. Mass crossed home plate in the ninth following an error which trimmed the deficit to 6-4. However, the Tars maintained its cushion for the rest of the game.

On the mound, junior Flynn Howard started and pitched 6.0 innings while registering three strikeouts. He surrendered two runs (one earned) on six hits as he was dealt a no-decision. In relief, freshman Parker Hohnstock had 3.0 innings of work and posted four strikeouts while allowing four runs (all earned) on six hits.

The Lions will be back on the diamond tomorrow, Saturday, February 28, as they continue their series against Rollins with a single game scheduled for 1 p.m.
