LAKE NONA, Fla. – The Saint Leo Lions continued their fall season this weekend hosting Keiser, Embry-Riddle, and Eastern Florida State during the 2019 Saint Leo Hidden Duals tournament, played at the United States Tennis Association (USTA) National Campus over the span of three days.
Saint Leo doubles went 2-1 over the weekend. The Green and Gold swept Keiser (8-5, 8-2, 8-2), dropped a 2-1 doubles decision to Embry-Riddle (8-7 (4), 5-8, 6-8) on Saturday and bounced back on Sunday to register a 2-1 victory over Eastern Florida State (8-3, 7-8 (5), 8-4).
In singles action, the Lions blanked Eastern Florida State paired nicely with a 5-1 singles win over Keiser on Saturday. On Sunday, Saint Leo edged Embry-Riddle 5-2 in singles play with wins coming from number two
Aurel Ciocanu (7-5, 5-7, 10-2), number three
Ghali Mensour (6-0, 7-6 (1)), number four
Willem Van Den Akker (7-5, 3-6, 10-5), and number five
David Perez (6-1, 7-5) respectively.
The Lions look forward to the Youth Tennis Foundation (YTF) Championships slated for Friday, Oct. 11 through Sunday, Oct. 13 in Lakeland, Fla.
