SAINT LEO, Fla. –
Jaime Bueno's comeback win clinched a 5-4 win for the #4 Saint Leo Men's Tennis Lions over #1 Barry Buccaneers on Saturday. The upset captured the program's second win this week over a No. 1 ranked opponent. Saint Leo remains undefeated, raising its overall record to 12-0, 2-0 in the Sunshine State Conference.
"Wow," expressed head coach
Chad Berryhill. "This was an awesome fight. Barry is an excellent team but our guys stepped up."
On Saturday, March 17, the then No. 7 Saint Leo men's tennis team downed the then No. 1 West Florida Argonauts 5-4 in Pensacola, Fla.
"Not many coaches can say they have beaten two No. 1 teams in one week," noted Berryhill. "I am super proud of our guys."
Saint Leo only cashed in one win from doubles play. No. 1
Thomas Grinberg and
Vincent Suillerot snagged an 8-4 win.
In singles play, Barry added its lead taking no. 4 and no. 2.
Francisco Aparicio downed no. 5 singles opponent 6-4, 6-2 while no. 1
Thomas Grinberg finished up; 6-2, 7-5. No. 6
Willem Van Den Akker tied the match in a three sets; 6-1, 0-6, 7-5.
"We are in the third set for
Jaime Bueno and he is down 4-0. He had to take a medical and I didn't know if he was going to be able to finish. Instead, he won six straight games, which is unbelievable. I think any guy on our team, with a match tied, would want Jaime on the court," concluded Berryhill.

On Tuesday, March 27 at 1:00 p.m. the Lions continue at Florida Institute of Technology in Melbourne, Fla.
