LAKE NONA, Fla. – The No. 4 Saint Leo Lions remain undefeated, drawing a 7-2 win over No. 30 Washburn on Thursday. The win raises the team's record to 11-0.
"Washburn was ready for us today," said head coach
Chad Berryhill. "They put out a great effort with a lot of energy, especially in doubles. But, credit to our guys for handling the intense environment by playing good tennis."
Saint Leo took two of three in doubles play: no. 1 doubles
Thomas Grinberg and
Vincent Suillerot (8-6) and no. 2
Willem Van Den Akker and
Jaime Bueno (8-6).
No. 1 ITA Division II no. 1
Thomas Grinberg kept his perfect season record tallying a 7-6, 6-2 win, raising his record to 11-0.
Other singles victories included no. 2 Suillerot Vincent (6-4, 6-3), no. 3
Jaime Bueno (6-3, 6-2), no. 5
Francisco Aparicio (6-1, 3-6, 6-4) and no. 6
Willem Van Den Akker (6-3, 3-6, 6-2).
On Saturday, March 24 at 11:00 a.m. at the Saint Leo Tennis Center, the No. 4 Saint Leo Lions and No. 1 Barry Buccaneers meet for a nationally ranked Sunshine State Conference match.
