ORLANDO, Fla. –The No. 7 Saint Leo Lions shook off the #22 Auburn Montgomery Warhawks adding an 8-1 decision to their perfect 8-0 season on Tuesday.
The Warhawks met the Lions in Orlando Florida but only traveled with five players.
Thomas Grinberg and
Vincent Suillerot took no 1 doubles, 8-4 as did
Jaime Bueno and
Willem Van Den Akker in no. 2 doubles.
Francisco Aparicio and
Bruno Babic won no. 3 by default.
Grinberg, Saint Leo's no. 1 singles, snagged a 6-2, 7-5 decision. The Warhawks managed a no. 2 three set win; 7-6, 2-6, 10-8. Bueno won no. 3 (6-1, 6-2) followed by no. 4 Babic (6-4, 6-4). Aparicio landed a long three set battle; 1-6, 6-4, 13-11.
Willem Van Den Akker was handed the no. 6 win by default.
Saint Leo stays on the road, traveling to West Florida's weekend tournament. Saint Leo will begin the three-day match tournament on Friday, March 16 at 2:00 p.m. (CT)/3:00 p.m. (EST) against the University of Illinois Springfield.
