SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo women's golf senior Margine Arguello has been named to the Nicaraguan team that will compete in golf at the upcoming 2017 Central American Games.
The Central American Games will be held in Managua, Nicaragua, on December 3-17, with the golf events taking place at the Nejapa Golf Country Club.
"Competing for one's country is a tremendous honor, and I know Margine is eagerly looking forward to this opportunity to represent Nicaragua," said Lyndsey Bevill, Saint Leo's head women's golf coach. "I'm proud of Margine, as are her teammates, and we'll all be looking forward to seeing her results at the Central American Games.
Arguello completed the fall portion of the Lions' 2017-18 season with a 78.00 stroke average over four rounds played. Her lowest round of the fall was a two-over 74 fired in the opening round of the 2017 Saint Leo Women's Golf Invitational, played at the Lake Jovita Golf & Country Club.
In 2016-17, Arguello recorded a 77.21 stroke average over 28 rounds played. Her best finish was fifth at the University of Illinois Springfield Island Getaway tournament in Rio Grande, Puerto Rico, where she fired her season-low round of 71.
This year will mark the 11th Central American Games, which are organized by the Organización Deportiva Centroamericana (ORDECA), and held every four years. Participating teams include Belize, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Panama. At the last games, held in 2013 in San José, Costa Rica, a total of 2,738 athletes competed from the seven Central American nations.
