Men’s tennis dominates final results at Juan Varon Wildcat Invite

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. – Saint Leo men's tennis players won five of the seven singles round robin groups and two of the four doubles groups, during Sunday's final day of competition at the Bethune-Cookman Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational. The tournament took place on the clay courts at the Florida Tennis Center.

Thomas Grinberg (A Flight), Vincent Suillerot (B Flight), Aurel Ciocanu (D Flight), Willem van den Akker (F Flight), and Francisco Aparicio (G Flight) all came away victorious in their singles groups. Aparicio's match in G Flight against Flagler Tommaso Bagon was the only one that was pushed to the super-tiebreak, with Aparicio eventually coming out on top, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3.

In doubles competition, the Saint Leo pairings of Grinberg/Suillerot (A Flight) and van den Akker/Jaime Bueno (D Flight) came away from their respective groups in first place. Van den Akker/Bueno played two matches on Sunday to clinch their group victory.

The Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational complete the Fall slate for Saint Leo men's tennis. The Lions are scheduled to return to the courts on Thursday, Feb. 8, when they host NCAA Division III member Gustavus Adolphus College.
