WINTER PARK, Fla. – Saint Leo junior
Vincent Suillerot won both his matches on Saturday to claim the A Flight singles crown at the 2017 C.L. Varner Memorial Invitational, which concluded Saturday at Rollins College.
Suillerot defeated Rollins' Nicolo DeFraia in the championship match, 7-5, 5-2, retired. In his semifinal match, Suillerot dispatched Rollins' Guillermo Nicolas, 6-1, 6-2.
Willem van den Akker took the title in the D Flight singles bracket, defeating Flagler's Tommaso Bagon, 6-4, 6-3.
Bruno Babic and
Aurel Ciocanu were each defeated in the championship matches for B and C flights, while the Lions' top doubles team of Suillerot and James DeFusto reached the A Flight Doubles title match.
Saint Leo men's tennis returns to the courts on October 27-29, when they travel to Daytona Beach, Fla., to compete in the Juan Varon Wildcat Invitational hosted by Bethune-Cookman College.
