DENTON, Texas – The Saint Leo University Women's golf team concluded the first day of action at the Dallas Baptist University Women's Classic, sitting in third out of 16 teams with a team score of 576 (291/285, E), just one stroke behind current runners-up Henderson State and six strokes behind team leader Lynn Monday night at the Robson Ranch Wildhorse Golf Club.
Day One proved to be a thriller, as 12 of 16 teams changed standings between the two rounds played. The Lions finished the first round in sixth before rebounding in the second round, sharing the best round score.

Elena Verticchio had a strong first showing donning the Green & Gold, posting an individual score of 137 (69/68), -7, which was tied for second overall. The native of Rome, Italy additionally boasted the second-best scoring average in both the Par 3 (2.75) and Par 4 (3.90) courses, as well as the second-most birdies (11) on the day.
