INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – The NCAA officially announced its selections for the 2022 Cross Country National Championships Monday evening, as Graduates
Holly Little and
Arthur Cosson qualified as individuals and will represent Saint Leo and the South Region as individuals.
"We are thrilled for Arthur and Holly to be able to qualify individually as they have really been hitting their peak fitness!" said Head Coach
Kent Reiber. "They both came to Saint Leo with the mindset of being an All-American, and now they finally get the opportunity to show what they can do on the biggest stage. In order to be eligible to participate in the championships, teams and individuals had to qualify in their respective NCAA regional competitions that were held this past weekend. They are both experienced and patient runners; the team is looking forward to watching them compete!"
Thirty-four teams were selected to participate in each championship. The top three, seven-person teams automatically qualified from each of the eight regions, for a total of 24 teams. Ten additional teams were selected at-large. A minimum of 24 additional individuals were selected to participate in each championship through an automatic qualifier and at-large selection process. The list of advancing teams and individuals is outlined below.
The Lions' Women's cross country team just missed out on an automatic bid to the National Championships, finishing fourth as a team in the South Region Championships.
"We gave ourselves a chance to earn one of the elusive at-large bids, and although we fell short of qualifying as a team, we ran some of the best races both our programs have had in recent years" said Reiber. "The real victory is knowing that each of our student-athletes gave it their all and almost every single one ran a cross country lifetime best at the right time."
The national championships will be held December 2nd at Chambers Creek Regional Park in University Place, WA. Seattle Pacific University will serve as the host. The men's race will begin at 1:00 p.m. Eastern, followed by the women's race at 2:15 p.m. Eastern.
A live webstream of the championships will occur on
