LAKELAND, Fla. - Saint Leo University Cross Country opened up its season at the Swan City invitational, hosted by Southeastern University at Holloway Park.
The men's 6-kilometer race kicked off at 7:25 a.m. and saw freshman Paul Rivera take 30th place leading the way for the lions with a time of 19:40.2.
Rivera was followed by freshman duo Angelo Acosta and Santiago Rodriguez with times of 21:15.0 and 21:15.8 respectively. Rounding out the top scoring positions for the harriers were freshman Jason Bracero Jr, and freshman Brandon Hill with times of 22:29.1 and 22:32.0 accordingly.
The men took ninth overall with a total of 261 points.
The women's race was a 4-kilometer race with freshman Delaney Glynn leading he way for the lions, crossing the line in a time of 16:24.1.
Alexis Morgan was the second lion to finish in 17:20, followed by freshman duo Jasmine Fajardo and Maria Tejada with times of 19:02.0 and 19:06.6. The final scorer for the lions was Sophomore Carlee Bachman in 19:24.3.
The women took eighth overall with a total score of 233.
The Cross Country team is back in action next Friday at the Hoka Night of Thunder XC fest, inl Tallahassee, Fla.
