Lions Cruise Past Panthers in Melbourne

Box Score MELBOURNE, Fla. – The Saint Leo women's basketball team cruised past the Florida Tech Panthers, 74-59, on the road Saturday. The Lions' first road win confidently raised their record to 2-1 while the Panthers fell to 2-3 on the season. The dominant performance is the program's six straight victory over Florida Tech as Saint Leo hasn't conceded a meeting since January 10, 2018.

Alex Button paced the offense with 14 points followed by Amanda Ulrich with 12. Button went 5-for-8 from the floor including a flawless 2-for-2 downtown. The junior shooting guard was also perfect at the free-throw line, knocking in both free throws awarded. Ulrich wrapped up the game sinking 4-of-9 shots paired with a perfect 4-for-4 day at the line. Tori Lesko finished the game just shy of a double-double. Lesko scored 11 points and earned a game-high nine rebounds.

Coach Crocitto expressed, "After a very tough Barry loss we really came together. They sure responded and I am so proud of this team."

Saint Leo leaped ahead of the Panthers, 19-7, after the first quarter. The Lions added to their double-digit lead reaching a strong 37-19 halftime score.

The Lions continued to control the game, maintaining a 20-point gap in the third quarter. Casey O'Shaughnessy hit a three-pointer in the last basket of the third to make it 60-33. The fourth quarter was more of the same as Saint Leo refused to loosen its grip since the tip-off.

"The bench was amazing today," continued Crocitto. "They scored and rebounded. What a night for Alayna Harris, who gives us another game of great rookie minutes.

Alex Button continues to develop into one of the better NCAA Division II student-athletes in the country. She carried us on her back at times tonight."

Saint Leo shot a team 40.9-percent from the floor sinking 27-of-66 attempts. Saint Leo loved inside the paint, tallying 38 points to Florida Tech's 22 inside. On the charity stripe, the Green and Gold was nearly perfect shooting 88.9-percent going 16-for-18. Off the boards, Saint Leo won the possession battle, 45 to 28.

These safety standards meet those set by the NCAA Division II and the Sunshine State Conference President's Council. At Saint Leo University, the COVID-19 Incident Command Team also reviews the teams' safety protocol and monitors adherence on a regular basis.
