Agunzo Sets Single Season Record For Made Three Pointers In Penultimate Regular Season Game

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo university women's basketball fell at home to the University of Tampa Spartans by a score of 73-60. Despite the loss, junior guard Olivia Agunzo set a new single season record for made three pointers with 74, breaking the previous mark set by Denine Brunoforte in the 1990-91 season. Agunzo now sits with 77 made threes with one game remaining.  

TAMPA 73, SAINT LEO 60 — QUARTER BY QUARTER 

1st Quarter: 

Saint Leo opened with one of its sharpest offensive quarters of the season, shooting 50% and knocking down four threes. Agunzo set the tone with three early triples, while freshman Jailenn Green added a smooth jumper and sophomore Amy Duggan scored in transition. Junior Mira Hanna provided a lift off the bench with a late layup, helping the Lions build a five point lead, 18-13.   

2nd Quarter: 

The Lions continued to score efficiently, hitting 58% from the field in the quarter. Hanna delivered a strong stretch with back to back mid range buckets, and Green added another finish in the paint. Tampa countered with a run inside, but Saint Leo stayed composed and entered halftime tied at 35.  

3rd Quarter:  

Saint Leo kept pace early behind Agunzo, who reached 20 points with her sixth three of the night. Green continued to facilitate, finishing the game with five assists, and Duggan added a steady mid range jumper. Tampa's interior scoring created separation late in the quarter, but the Lions remained within striking distance heading to the fourth highlighted by a Duggan buzzer beater heading into the 4th, trailing 56-50.  

4th Quarter:

The Lions continued to battle, with Gagnon knocking down her second three and Hanna adding another strong finish inside. O'Leary anchored the defense with a block and four rebounds, but Tampa's late run sealed the result. Saint Leo finished with nine made threes and shot 47% from the field in a strong offensive showing, but fell 73-60.

The women's basketball regular season concludes at home this Sat. Feb 28th where they will celebrate senior day before a 2PM tipoff against Embry Riddle.
