Women’s Basketball Concludes Season with Senior Night Thriller

SAINT LEO, Fla. — Saint Leo women's basketball fell at home in their season finale 87-85. Before the contest, graduating seniors Mira Hanna and Paula Llovich were honored.

First Quarter

Saint Leo came out firing, pushing tempo and attacking early in transition. Olivia Agunzo opened the scoring burst with back-to-back threes, and Jailenn Green immediately followed with a jumper and a pair of free throws to give the Lions rhythm and confidence.

The Lions' defensive pressure created multiple fast-break chances, highlighted by a steal-and-score sequence from Gagnon and a transition finish from Agunzo that pushed the lead to 16–11.

Saint Leo closed the quarter strong with a 7–2 run, capped by Gagnon's late layup to secure a 28–23 advantage after 10 minutes, 28-23.

Second Quarter

The second quarter turned into a heavyweight exchange, with both teams trading baskets and momentum. Green continued her dominant start, scoring at all three levels a mid-range jumper, a fast break finish, and a pair of free throws, while Gagnon attacked downhill for tough paint points. Agunzo added another three, and Mira Hanna provided key minutes off the bench with a layup and a free throw to keep the Lions in front. Saint Leo shot 52.9% in the quarter and carried a 50–45 lead into halftime, energized by the large home crowd.

Third Quarter

The Eagles made their push out of the break, using second-chance points and interior scoring to reclaim momentum, but Gagnon and Green kept the Lions afloat with timely drives and free throws. Despite a shooting dip, Saint Leo remained within striking distance, trailing just 67–65 entering the fourth.

Fourth Quarter

Green was unstoppable, scoring repeatedly in the paint and finishing through contact. Agunzo drilled a deep three to tie the game at 76–76, and Gagnon added another fast-break layup to keep the Lions within one possession throughout the final minutes. Saint Leo shot 46.7% in the fourth and got critical defensive stops, but Embry-Riddle converted late free throws and a pair of interior baskets to escape with the narrow win. Even in defeat, the Lions delivered one of their most complete offensive outings of the season, 85 points, 44 paint points, 35 fast break points, and 28 bench points.
