ITA Names 6 Lions in Year-End South Region Rankings

SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) named six of the Saint Leo men's tennis team in the year-end south region rankings on Wednesday. The ITA determined although there were not enough competitions played for a final national poll, there was enough to release a regionally finale alongside a national team poll. Alexander Parker, Aurel Ciocanu, Nicolas Bacella, Bruno Faletto, Willem Van Den Akker, and Kayne Trustfull were all honored as standouts in the South Region. As a unit, the 2020 Lions finished with a stellar ranking of fourth in the nation. The Top-5 national ranking reflects a 9-2 overall record, with a 1-0 mark in the Sunshine State Conference (SSC).
 
Among the singles rankings, Alexander Parker was named fifth, Aurel Ciocanu was tabbed seventh, Nicolas Bacella pulled in a top-10 nod, and Bruno Faletto ranked 18th rounded off the singles honors for the Lions. No. 5 Parker, a new face for the Green and Gold squad, posted a 7-2 record during his junior campaign. Parker went 5-1 at first singles and 2-1 at second. Her closed the year on a five-match win streak. No. 7 Ciocanu, a junior, compiled a 3-3 singles record going 3-2 at third and 0-1 at the four spot. Meanwhile, no. 10 Bacella, a sophomore, handed in a 5-2 mark featuring a 4-2 second singles and 1-0 third singles season. No. 18 Faletto was held to only a pair of matches (0-2) due to injuries after an outstanding individual fall season.
 
In doubles action, two pairs were highlighted as the best in the region. Willem Van Den Akker and Aurel Ciocanu were named ninth followed by Alexander Parker and Kayne Trustfull who were pinned 10th in the region. No. 9 van den Akker and Ciocanu went 2-6 as a first doubles duo while no. 10 Parker and Trustfull registered a 5-1 record at second doubles and wrapped up the season on a three-match win streak.
