MELBOURNE, Fla. – A total of 68 Saint Leo student-athletes were named to the Sunshine State Conference Commissioner's Honor Roll for the 2018 fall semester, announced on Thursday by SSC Commissioner Ed
Pasque.
The Lions saw 12 individuals earn a perfect 4.00 in the fall, as
Victoria Omoregie and
Brooke Turner of volleyball,
Jack Astill,
Haydn Dickinson, Lucas Gomes,
Elias Niesigk and
Pietro Vagnone of men's soccer,
Grace Martin,
Maria Miller of women's soccer, Joshua
Sickinger of men's cross country,
Alyssa Bayliff of women's cross country and
Paige Patterson who competed on both the women's soccer and women's cross country teams.
Women's soccer led with 21 honored, and men's soccer followed with 19. The volleyball team saw 11 honored, while women's cross country team had 10 and the men's cross country team added eight.
The SSC as a whole saw a record total of 671 student-athletes honored on the list, with a total of 153 earning 4.0's. The total breaks the previous record number of 651 student-athletes that were named to the 2017 Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll. It is the sixth consecutive record-breaking fall for the SSC Honor Roll.
To be eligible for the Fall SSC Commissioner's Honor Roll, a student-athlete must post a minimum grade point average of 3.20 on a scale of 4.00. Participants in the sports of men's and women's cross country, men's and women's soccer and volleyball were eligible for the fall honor roll.
Having won 106 Division II National Championships since the league was founded in 1975, SSC's student-athletes have proven to be successful in the classroom as well. The SSC boasts an Academic Success Rate of 86 percent for the eighth consecutive year. The mark ranks first among all 24 Division II conferences.
