Men's Lacrosse Notes
  • Saint Leo costed to a 20-6 home opener win over Lincoln Memorial on Saturday. Charlie Kurtenbach led the Lions' scoring with five goals from 12 shots. Kurtenbach leads Saint Leo's season goal count with nine.
  • Kyle Pauwels earned nine points scoring three goals off five shots and assisted in six while picking up three groundballs. Four of his six assists came in the first six minutes of play as the Lions posted a 5-0 start over the Railsplitters. For his work, Pauwels was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week.
  • Jake Gilmour became Saint Leo's newest career points holder with 177 points: 87 goals, 90 assists. Gimour enters the game as the early season point leader with 13, scoring five goals, assisting in eight.
  • In goal, Thomas Tatarian earned 18 saves. He was also honored by the SSC as the Defensive Player of the Week.
  • Young Harris is still on the hunt for its first win in 2018. No. 17 Lindenwood handed the Mountian Lions a 17-11 loss on Saturday.
  • Bruce Silk scored three goals on Saturday, while Jake Dunlop and Jimmy Martelli had two each.
  • After two games against ranked opponents, Silk leads the Young Harris offensive with five goals and two assists. Matty Ledon enters the game with three goals. Zach Stephenson has won 36-of-62 faceoffs for the Mountain Lions.

Softball Notes
  • No. 23 Softball travels to Winter Park to open up conference play against Rollins College. The Lions enter the series at 8-1 where the Tars are 3-6.
  • Saint Leo is coming off a three game sweep of Young Harris College last weekend. Rollins is heading back home after traveling to St. Augustine to take on No. 7 North Georgia and Flagler College in the Southeast Regional Crossover. The Tars dropped both games against the 7th ranked team in the country on Saturday, while splitting the doubleheader versus Flagler on Sunday.
  • Kacie Kelly continues tto lead the Lions in batting average, runs, runs batted in, doubles, and walks.
  • Alison Mitts continues to prove her dominance in the circle. The righty is coming in with a 4-0 record whiling posting a 0.83 ERA and has struckout 23 batters over 25.1 innings.
  • For Rollins, Chandler Middlebrook has had a nice start to her senior season as she leads her team in batting average, runs batted in, doubles, and walks.
  • Abby Summers has started six out of the nine games for the Tars and has a 3-4 record on the year. Summers has allowed 36 hits, 22 earned runs, and 20 walks while strucking out 37 batters over 37.2 innings pitched.

  • Saint Leo opens its 2018 season at the Embry-Riddle First Chance-Last Chance meet. This will be the first weekend for the outdoor season where it is the last chance for indoor athletes to qualify for indoor Nationals. 
  • The Lions will compete Saturday in Daytona Beach where 31 athletes will run throughout the day.

Women's Tennis Notes
  • Saint Leo enters the match 2-0 after defeating Gustavus Adolphus 9-0 and State College of Florida 9-0.
  • Marta Vincens Miquel went 2-0 in first singles, 2-0 first doubles to start her collegiate career. On Thursday against Gustavus Adolphus, Vincens Miquel took first singles 6-1, 6-2, defeating the #5 ranked NCAA DIII player in the nation. In first doubles, Vincens Miquel and teammate Maja Pindelska posted an 8-2 win. On Saturday, she battled for a 6-3, 4-6, 10-6 win against South College of Florida's first singles Chelsea Samways, the #11 ranked NJCAA player. Again, Vincens Miquel and Pindelska won first doubles, this time with a perfect slate, 8-0.
  • Nova Southeastern enters the match with an overall record of 2-1. The Sharks dropped their opening match to No. 3 Keiser 8-1 followed by two straight wins facing No. 6 Flager (6-3) and Southeastern University (9-0).
  • Isabella Lowrey holds a 2-0 fifth singles record. She earned a 6-2, 6-1 win against Lorene Foerster from Keiser followed by a 6-1, 6-2 win against Flagler's Paloma Martinez.
  • Ana Navas leads the Sharks in first singles play with a record of 2-1 going 1-1 against nationally ranked opponents. Navas captured a 6-2, 6-1 win against Flagler's number one singles Lizanne Jinkertz.

Baseball Notes
  • Due to weather, baseball gets stay home for another series as West Alabama will travel down to Thomas B. Southard for a three game series.
  • Saint Leo comes in at 4-1 and West Alabama at 1-5. The Lions took two of three from the visiting Lee Flames who also had to change their location to Saint Leo due to weather. After sweeping the doubleheader on Saturday 3-2 and 4-2, the Flames bounced back on Sunday with a 12-4 win.
  • Zach Scott lead the team from the box with a .556 batting average over the weekend. Scott also added four RBI and a triple to his stat line.
  • In two low scoring games on Saturday, it was junior Peyton Isaacson who came in to shut the door with two saves in two innings of work. Oscar Gordillo and Drew Tumbelty both notched wins for the Lions in relief efforts.
  • For the Tigers, JT Salter has been their workhorse on the mound posting a 1.74 ERA over 10.1 innings pitched. Austin Moffett leads the team in runs, doubles, triples and batting average.

Women's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo enjoyed a schedule bye on Wednesday. The Lions look to add to their three-game winning streak after defeating Florida Tech on the road (62-54), and Nova (55-52) and Barry (68-61) at home last week.
  • Nikira Hooks was named Sunshine State Conference Offensive Player of the Week on Monday, her first SSC weekly honor. Hooks scored 42 points including career-high 25 points against Nova on Wednesday. On the week, she shot .462 FG% (12-26), .444 3FG% (4-9) and .875 FG% (14-16). Off the glass, she averaged nine RPG, totaling 18 from five offensive rebounds, 13 defensive rebounds. She marked the rest of the stat sheet with five assists, a block and three steals. On Saturday against Barry, she posted a double double scoring 17 points, 10 rebounds along with four assists and two steals in the Lions' victory.
  • Alani Gallagher enters the game leading the Lions' scoring and rebounding. After 25 games she averages nine PPG, six RPG. On the season, she is shooting .458 FG% and has earned 14 blocks.
  • Lynn enters the game with a two-game losing skid after facing Embry-Riddle (58-56) and Florida Southern (76-59).
  • On the season, Paola Vazquez Concepcion averages 15.2 PPG shooting .418 FG%, .33 3FG%, .770 FT%. Off the boards, she averages 4.6 RPG. Jaylen Snipes also averages double digits with 12.1 PPG shooting .381 FG%, .313 3FG%, .767 FT%. The Fighting Knights rebounding is led by Juju Uloma, averaging 5.6 RPG.
  • Last meeting, Lynn ended Saint Leo's six-game winning streak on December 30, 67-52. Ragen Dotson had led Saint Leo with 15 points, Alani Gallagher tallied 10- points, eight rebounds. The Lions were unable to finish the battle with a six-point fourth quarter. Mariah Penascino scored 13 for Lynn supported by Paola Vazquez Concepcion with 11. Juju Uloma grabbed 12 rebounds for the Fighting Knights.

Men's Basketball Notes
  • Saint Leo enters the weekend with an overall record of 12-16, 8-9 SSC record after suffering a 75-88 loss to Barry on Feb. 10.
  • The Lions saw three players score in double-figures, led by Daniel Duarte with 21 points, where he shot 4-5 from behind the arc.
  • On the year, DeAndre King, Junior Searcy, and Isaiah Hill each average 12.1 points per game. Isaiah Hill and Drago Popovic lead the team in rebounds at 5.1 per game and 4.9, respectively.
  • Lynn enters the weekend with an overall record of 13-11, 10-8 SSC record after suffering an 88-76 loss Florida Southern. Three players scored in double-figures led by Rasheed Worrell with 25 points where he went 4-4 behind the arc.
  • The Fighting Knights have five guys averaging double figures in scoring on the season with Jamal Palmer and Brandon Bornelus leading with 13 and 12.9 points per game respectively.
  • Matchup: The Lions defeated the Fighting Knights back on December 30th with an 80-73 win at the Bowman Center. Tyreece Brice led Saint Leo in scoring 18 points with Junior Searcy following with 15 points. Jamal Palmer and Rasheed Worrell led the Fighting Knights with 21 points apiece.

Women's Lacrosse Notes
  • Saint Leo clinched an 18-10 win on Sunday in the season home opener against Molloy. The Lions scored nine consecutive goals in the second half for the 1-0 start.
  • Freshman Sarah Pierson won seven draw controls, four ground balls and caused a turnover while committing no turnovers during her three goal collegiate opener.
  • Leslie Ferguson led Saint Leo's offense scoring four goals, going 4-of-5 in free position shots, three assists and picking up five ground balls.
  • In goal, Erin Davis tallied six saves in the win.
  • UCCS will face Ave Maria on Thursday and Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday before visiting University Turf Stadium.
  • Madison Ellis and Gianni Cannon earned All-RMAC Women's Lacrosse Honorable Mention during the 2017 postseason following the Mountain Lions inaugural season. Last season, Ellis, an attacker, finished with 17 points from 14 goals, three assists. She also notched six caused turnovers and picked up 13 ground balls. Cannon, a defender, ended the 2017 season as a starter.

Men's Tennis Notes
  • Saint Leo downed Gustavus Adolphus 7-2 on Feb. 8.
  • Thomas Grinberg defeated NCAA DIII #1 ranked player, Mohanad Alhouni, 6-1, 6-3 in first singles. In third doubles, Grinberg and teammate James Defusto rolled over their opponents 8-2. 
  • Flager has seen five matches of action in 2018: Florida Southern (W, 8-1), Lynn (L, 7-2), #6 Rollins (W, 5-4), #2 Barry (L 7-2), Palm Beach Atlantic (W, 8-1).
  • Flager's first singles slot is split between Luca Bolla and Lukas Storck. Bolla opened 2018 3-1 in second singles and moved up to first singles against Palm Beach Atlantic. He earned the first singles win 7-6 (9-7), 3-6, 6-3. Storck went 1-3 in first singles. Switching to second singles, he downed PBA's Philipp Hoffmann 6-3, 6-0.
  • Leading doubles play is Konstantin Dustmann and Lukas Storck with a 4-1 mark in first doubles.
