SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo senior Colett Rampf was named the U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) Division II Women's National Athlete of the Week on Monday, for her performance in Friday's Queens University (N.C.) Royals XC Challenge.
Rampf, who was also the Sunshine State Conference Women's Cross Country Runner of the Week, eclipsed her own Saint Leo 5K record with a winning time of 17:05 in Friday's race in Charlotte – a 27-second improvement over her previous record. She finished two seconds ahead of the nearest competitor, Emily Kearney from SCAD-Atlanta.
"Colett is a tremendous athlete, and earning another national athlete of the week honor exemplifies her dedication to the sport and our program," said Kent Reiber, Saint Leo's head cross country coach. "I'm very proud of the work that she has put in so far, but her aspirations are much higher than national athlete of the week. She wants to be in #TheHunt."
The USTFCCCA National Athlete of the Week award is the second of Rampf's career, and the third in Saint Leo history. Rampf received the honor once in 2016, as did Saint Leo men's cross country runner Ronald Cheserek.
The Saint Leo cross country teams will head to Kissimmee, Fla., on Saturday to compete in the Disney Classic. The men's 8K race will begin at 7:40 a.m., followed by the women's 5K race at 8:25 a.m.
