SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Men's basketball team travels to Winter Park, Fla. Wednesday to face Rollins in Sunshine State Conference play, as the Lions will look to avenge an earlier season defeat to the Tars.
At the Marion Bowman Activities Center January 18th, the atmosphere was electric, as Saint Leo (18-9, 9-7 SSC) and Rollins (12-12, 8-8 SSC) were involved in a shootout that finished with the Tars besting the Lions in overtime 98-95. On Wednesday, the Green & Gold will get a chance to split the series with Rollins.
At one point in the season, the Sunshine State Conference standings had an extremely tight span, with second to ninth places being no more than a game and a half of one another. With four games remaining in the season, the standings have expanded just enough that the Lions can punch their ticket into the SSC tournament Wednesday with a win over Rollins plus wins from #2/#1 Nova Southeastern and Tampa in their respective midweek contests.
Rollins has shown to be road warriors in the 2022-23 season, posting a 6-3 record against SSC opponents in away contests. At home, however, the Tars are 2-5 in conference play when playing at home.
Hutton Yenor remains the spark of Rollins' scoring attack, as the Graduate's 20 point average is tied for third in the SSC, including a 26.7 point average from the last three games. Yenor also leads the Tars in boards (5.5 a game) and steals (2.5 a game). In the paint, Matheus Silveira is one of the conference's top shooters, hitting over 60% from the field.
Tipoff at Warden Arena is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. Fans unable to attend can follow the live action from the links below:
