SAINT LEO, Fla. – It was an unlucky night for the Saint Leo University Women's soccer team, as the Lions were stunned at home by conference rival Florida Southern 1-0 Tuesday night at Saint Leo University Soccer Field.
The Green & Gold (6-3-1, 2-3 SSC) were bested at home for the first time this season, as the Lions were held to its lowest shot total on the season with seven. Junior
Bella Arato and Senior
Nina Mueller led Saint Leo shots with two shots apiece.
After a scoreless first half, the Mocs (6-1-3, 3-1-1 SSC) scored the deciding goal in the 56th minute as a slipping Lindsey Meyer set up the cross to Angelina Coelho for the header.
The Lions' biggest opportunity to equalize came late in the 88th minute when a clearance shot from Arato at midfield forced FSC Goalkeeper Jenny Staten to outstretch her arms and deflect the ball into the crossbar. The bounce angled the ball downward, setting up Graduate
Caitlin Strong with a rebound opportunity with an exposed net before sailing the shot high.
