#12 Men's Golf Climbs After Round 2 of Regional Friday

BOWLING GREEN, Fla. - No. 12 Saint Leo men's golf climbed three spots on the team leaderboard to sit within striking distance for the third and final round after carding a second round 289 (+1) to sit with a 36-hole score of 588 (+12) at the 2021 NCAA Division II South/Southeast Regional at Streamsong Resort. 

On the day, three of five players shot an even-par 72 while the other two turned in just a one-over 73 to help guide the Lions just outside the cut line heading into the final 18-holes set for Saturday. Oliver Lilliedahl, Alberto Castagnara, and Colin Kresl all carded a 72 on the par-72, 7,139-yard Blue Course while Francois Cilliers and Jake Nash carded a 73. 

As a team, the Lions made 15 combined birdies led by Castagnara's four in round two. Saint Leo is third in the field in birdies made with 31 as Castagnara is tied for the individual lead with nine thus far. Jake Nash through 36-holes is the lone Lion to record an eagle as he holed out on the par-5 ninth Friday afternoon. 

Columbus State overtook the lead by a stroke following a second-round 290 (+2) for a two-round total 581 (+5). Erskine's Alberto Avila fired off a 67 (-5) with the help of two eagles to claim a five-stroke lead heading to the final round at Streamsong Resort. Currently, the cut line is sitting at plus-seven where the no. 1 West Florida Argonauts are holding the fourth and final spot behind the Cougars in first (+5) and Barry and Lee tied for second at six-over.

At Saint Leo University, the COVID-19 Incident Command Team also reviews the teams' safety protocol and monitors adherence on a regular basis.
