SAINT LEO, Fla. – The fourth-seeded Saint Leo Lions and second-seeded Tampa Spartans meet again for the second consecutive year in the Sunshine State Conference Championship. The SSC tilt is set for Sunday, April 28 at 2 p.m. in Tampa, Florida.
Saint Leo upset the first-seed and SSC regular season championships, Lynn on Thursday in Boca Raton; 9-7. Tampa wrapped up the semifinal round defeating third-seed Rollins; 16-11.
Last Meeting
- The Lions and Spartans met on Saturday, April 6 during the regular season schedule. The Spartans' offensive onslaught upended the No. 14 Lions 17-8.
- Tampa topped Saint Leo in faceoffs (24-4), ground balls (39-27) and shots (45-26).
- Philip Buque, Charlie Kurtenbach and Daniel Sparks each scored two goals. Kurtenbach led the offensive efforts with four points followed by Buque with three.
- Thomas Tatarian earned 11 saves in the net.
SSC Championship Tournament History
- Since the SSC Tournament inception in 2014, Tampa is the only team to capture a SSC Tournament Championship as five-time defending champions.
- In 2018, first-seed Saint Leo fell 8-6 to third-seed Tampa at University Turf Stadium.
