SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Sunshine State Conference announced its 2019 Men's Lacrosse All-Conference honors on Wednesday. Eight Lions were honored among the All-SSC teams in the form of
Charlie Kurtenbach (first team, attack),
Philip Buque (first team, attack),
Thomas Tatarian (first team, goalie),
Julian Taylor (first team, short-stick defensive middle),
Ethan Ticehurst (second team, long-stick middle),
Collin Beck (second team, defense),
Tyler Eames (all-freshman team, attack), and
Peyton Tyson (all-freshman team, short-stick defensive middle).
Charlie Kurtenbach was named All-SSC first team after dishing out 70 points scoring 39 goals and 31 assists alongside a .610 shot on goal percentage. The senior attacker scored five man-up goals, one man-down goal, picked up 46 ground balls and caused six turnovers. The 2019 honor marks Kurtenbach's third all-conference title following his 2016 all-freshman team (middle) and 2018 second team (attack) selections.
Philip Buque had a breakout season earning his first all-conference honors. The junior attacker was named to the All-SSC first team tallying 63 points this season putting in 48 goals and assisting in 15. Buque closed the regular season with a team-best .471 shooting percentage placing .667 percent of his takes on frame. He also picked up 24 ground balls and caused six turnovers.
Thomas Tatarian earned his second-straight first team all-conference selection, his third all-time all-SSC honor following his 2017 second team pick. The program's all-time save record holder earned 173 stops in 2019 after 781 minutes of action. The Shoreham, N.Y. product earned a .520 save percentage going 7-5 after the regular season in the net.
Julian Taylor earned back-to-back all-conference nods as a short-stick defensive middle from Tampa, Fla. The senior caused 13 turnovers, 38 ground balls helping the Lions to a season team clears of 281-328 (.857). On the transition, he broke into the offensive side of the field where he scored nine goals and eight assists for a 17-point season.
Ethan Ticehurst was tabbed All-SSC for the third-straight year as a 2019 second team member building on his 2018 second team and 2017 all-freshman team selections as a long-stick middle. Ticehurst started all 15 games for the Green and Gold causing 26 turnovers while also picking up 50 ground balls. When he wasn't causing problems for the opponent's offense, he was an issue for their defensive unit scoring eight goals and four assists for a 12-point junior campaign.
Collin Beck grabbed second team honors for his work as a starting defender. The junior out of North East, Maryland caused 13 turnovers and picked up 22 ground balls for the Lions.
Tyler Eames had a stellar freshman campaign as the team's third highest point scorer. Eames dished out 25 goals and 10 assists for 35 points. The Whitby, Ontario product ended the regular season with a .463 shooting percentage paired with a .722 shot on goal percentage. Eames also picked up 18 ground balls and caused one turnover.
Peyton Tyson a short-stick defensive middle from Spanish Fort, Alabama joined Eames on the all-freshman team. In ten games, Tyson caused five turnovers and picked up 20 ground balls for the Lions. On the other side of the field, the rookie netted four goals earning a .571 shot on goal percentage.
The Saint Leo Lions continue play on Thursday, April 25 at 5 p.m. The fourth-seeded Lions travel to the first-seeded Lynn Fighting Knights in the SSC Championship Tournament Semifinals.
