Lions Ledger: Women's Basketball Hits the Road for Midweek Games

  • Saint Leo opened the 2019-2020 season competing in the Gulf South/Sunshine State Conference Challenge hosted by Florida Southern in Lakeland, Fla. The Green and Gold clinched an 86-75 overtime final over Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday after falling to nationally-ranked Lee on Friday to start the season 1-1.
  • Junior forward Alani Gallagher was named SSC Defensive Player of the Week for her work highlighted by four blocks, a steal and 12 defensive rebounds. Her four blocks currently rank first in the SSC this season.
  • Amanda Ulrich enters the week nearly averaging a double-double. She paced the offense with 41 points (20.5 PPG) in her first two collegiate appearances. Off the rim, she pulled down 19 rebounds (9.5 RPG).
  • Montevallo opened the year perfect with a 2-0 mark, defeating Clark Atlanta (83-64) and Tuskegee (76-55). The GSC/SIAC Challenge sweep showcased Shyan Flack's 37 points (18.5 PPG) and 18 rebounds (9 RPG) followed by Kiya Sain with a 30-point week (15 PPG) and nine rebounds (4.5 RPG). Kourtnie Smith was also a presence off the glass with 13 rebounds (6.5 RPG).
  • Last meeting on Saturday, Nov. 17, 2018, Montevallo escaped the Lions' quick start, taking the victory in the form of a 67-57 decision.
  • Clark Atlanta is in search of its first win of the season. The Panthers were downed by Montevallo (83-64) and Auburn-Montgomery (78-48).
  • Lakashia Hill enters the week as the Panther's leading scorer, averaging 11.5 PPG. She is followed by Autum Morings with a double-double, 10 PPG and 11 RPG.
  • Last meeting on Friday, Nov. 13, 2015, Clark Atlanta earned a 79-78 win over Saint Leo, with four Panthers scoring double-digits.
