Thomas Tatarian,
Ethan Ticehurst and
Charlie Kurtenbach of Saint Leo men's lacrosse among the 2019 Face-Off Yearbook: Men's DII Preseason All-Americans on Dec. 19, 2018.
Thomas Tatarian was the first team goalkeeper preseason all-American heading into his senior season. Tatarian faced 449 shots on frame a year ago and snagged 263 saves in the process for a season save percentage of .586 on his way to a 16-3 record between the pipes. The Shoreham, N.Y. product broke two school records and a single-game record. For his work in goal, Tatarian was decorated as a USILA second team all-American, All-SSC first team selection while earning three USILA Defensive Player of the Week honors and four SSC Defensive Player of the Week honors throughout the season.
Ethan Ticehurst was a second-team preseason all-American at LSM heading into his junior campaign. As a sophomore, he started 18-of-19 games in which he registered 15 points, from five goals and 10 assists, highlighted by a goal in the first round of the NCAA tournament in a 12-11 overtime win against Tampa to send the Lions to the national semifinals. The Coquitlam, British Columbia product finished the year with a 54.5-shot-on-goal percentage along with 59 groundballs and 27 caused turnovers. Ticehurst capped off the year with All-SSC second team honors.
Charlie Kurtenbach rounded out the Lions on the preseason list as a third-team selection at attack. In the Lions' historic season, Kurtenbach started all 19 games while finishing with a 66.3-shot-on-goal percentage with 40 goals. The Issaquah, Wash. native dished out 29 assists on the year for 69 total season points, while he added 43 groundballs to his credit. Kurtenbach earned USILA Offensive Player of the Week honors two times throughout the course of the season before ending the year as an All-SSC second team member.
As a team, Saint Leo was selected 13th in the Inside Lacrosse preseason poll after last year's 2018 National Runner-Up finish. The Lions finished 16-3 overall going 7-0 in the Sunshine State Conference with the regular season SSC title. Fourteen-year veteran head coach,
Brad Jorgensen added 23 new faces to the 2019 roster.
The Saint Leo Lions open the 2019 season hosting Alabama-Huntsville on Saturday, February 9 at 12 p.m. at University Turf Stadium.
