BOCA RATON, Fla. - With two outs and bases loaded in the top of the 10th, senior
Lane Stancil stepped into the box and hit a go-ahead grandslam to push the Lions ahead 10-6 before
Drew Tumbelty closed the door on the Fighting Knights with a 1-2-3 inning, allowing the Green and Gold to hold on for the 10-6 win.
The win pushes the Lions record to 8-2 and 1-0 in Sunshine State Conference play.
Saint Leo jumped on the Fighting Knights early with a run in the first and one in the second. After the Lions took a 4-0 lead through three and a half, Lynn took its first lead of the game with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.
The Fighting Knights would add on another in the bottom of the sixth before the Lions got a run in the seventh and eighth to tie things at 6-6.
Aaron Portee hit a one-out double to get things started for the Green and Gold in the eighth where
Amir Wright singled up the middle to score Portee.
Amir Wright led the Lions offensively going 4-for-6 from the plate with two runs scored and two RBI.
Lane Stancil went 1-for-6 but had the big hit to plate four runs.
Peyton Isaacson,
Jared Morello and
Aaron Portee all went 3-for-5 on the night.
Saint Leo will return to the diamond at 12 p.m. in Boca Raton to take on the Fighting Knights in game two of the three-game series.
