SAINT LEO, Fla. – The
Rick O'Dette era continues to win as the Saint Leo Baseball team moved to 4-0 with 3-2 and 4-2 wins over Lee University Saturday at Thomas B. Southard Stadium.
The Lions outscored the Flames 7-4 in the 16 combined innings. The Green and Gold the nine inning game one 3-2 before taking the seven inning game two 4-2, with two runs in the bottom of the sixth.
Oscar Gordillo and
Drew Tumbelty picked up wins on the day where
Peyton Isaacson earned two saves on the mound.
Jordan Pendleton and
Tyler Bauman started for the Lions where they both went 5.0 innings. Pendleton allowed six hits and two runs, one earned, in game one with five strikeouts as Bauman allowed four hits, two runs and tallied five strikeouts in game two.
On the day,
Zach Scott went 3-for-6 to lead the team where
Chase Turner paced the team in scoring with two runs.
Peyton Isaacson picked up two doubles where
Lane Stancil hit one.
Jake Sims,
Brett Coffel,
Jared Morello and
Tate Sweatt all joined Turner and Stancil in scoring on the day.
Lee scored first in both games where the Lions answered the call each time. In game one, it would be a late run in the eighth inning that allowed the Green and Gold to win after Isaacson got the Flames to ground out to Scott, pop up to Scott and then pop up to
Derek Gibree.
In the second game, tied at 2-2 in the bottom of the sixth, Turner got things started with a single through the left side.
Jake Sims laid down a sacrifice bunt before a Scott single to right field scored Sweatt, who was running for Turner. After walking and advancing to third, Morello came in on a deep sacrifice fly to left field by Gibree.
After five defensive switches, the Lions saw Isaacson got the first out with a strikeout looking. After a single and a walk, the utility player got a line out to Turner and a foul fly out to first base.
Saint Leo and Lee return to the diamond February 11 at 12 p.m.
