Baseball drops first game of the season to Lee Sunday

SAINT LEO, Fla. – Saint Leo baseball dropped its first game of the season in the series finale to Lee at Thomas B. Southard Stadium Sunday afternoon.

The Flames' (3-3) fourth inning proved too much for the Lions (4-1) who surrendered six runs as the Green and Gold fell to Lee 12-4. Joey Antonopoulos got the nod for the series finale where he went 3.0 innings with four strikeouts. Ryan Nolan, McCabe Sargent, Shane Haight, Robbie Cook, Jerey Peel, and Jake Sims all recorded appearances on the mound.

Jake Sims and Zach Scott led the Lions in the hit column with two on the afternoon where Peyton Isaacson, Chase Turner, and Brett Coffel all tallied one. Isaacson paced the LIons in scoring with two runs scored.

Lee scored one run in the third, six runs in the fourth, one in the fifth, two in the seventh and one in both the eighth and ninth where the Lions scored one in the sixth and matched the Flames in the seventh (2) and eight (1).

Peyton Isaacson walked in the fourth inning for the Lions before coming around to score on a Brett Coffel single to right field.

The Green and Gold scored two in the seventh as Zach Scott hit a one out triple to center field scoring Tate Sweatt. Scott would come in to score on a Matt McGee groundout.

The Lions final run came in the eighth when Peyton Isaacson homered to right field.

Saint Leo will return to the diamond on Feb. 17-18 when the Lions travel to West Alabama to take on the Tigers. First pitch is slated for 1 p.m. Friday.
