SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team lost its series-opener versus Embry-Riddle on Thursday night in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action by a 4-3 margin.
The Lions struck first with an RBI-double by senior
Amai Rivera-Martinez in the second inning that scored junior
Luis Rivero. In the fourth, the Green & Gold added two more runs with an RBI-triple by junior Jake Carillo to left center followed by a one-run single to right field by senior
Thomas DeBrower as the Lions claimed a 3-0 lead. However, the Eagles cut their deficit to 3-1 in the sixth and eventually tied the game at 3-3 in the seventh. In the eighth, an RBI-double by Embry-Riddle gave the Eagles their first lead of the game. The bullpen of Embry-Riddle held the Lions at bay for the remainder of the game.
On the mound, freshman
Parker Hohnstock started and pitched 6.0 innings with a pair of strikeouts while he allowed one run (earned) on two hits and issuing five walks. In relief, freshman
Collin Lock tallied a pair of strikeouts in 1.0 innings and allowed two runs (one earned) on two hits. Junior
Jackson Wohlers pitched 2.0 innings with one strikeout and one run surrendered on one hit in addition to issuing two walks.
The Lions will return to action tomorrow, Friday, April 2 as it concludes its series with Embry-Riddle with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
