SAINT LEO, Fla. – Following the Saint Leo baseball team winning both games of Saturday's Sunshine State Conference (SSC) doubleheader, Lions head coach
Josh Keim collected his 200th collegiate win. The Lions won game one by a 10-1 margin followed by a 3-2 win in game two. In his second season with the Green & Gold, Keim has posted 39 wins so far. Before coming to the Sunshine State, Keim held a success stint at Black Hawk College with 161 wins, a member of the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA).
In game one, The Lions took a 2-0 lead after junior
Camdin Jansen knocked in two runs with a single to right field. Senior
Amai Rivera-Martinez added another run to the Lions edge with an RBI that scored junior
Abrahan Rios. Senior
Roberto Odor laced an RBI-double that pushed the Green & Gold advantage to 4-0.
During the fifth, Rios blasted a double to left center to score a run followed by Jansen scoring on a throwing error from the Eagles, 6-0. In the seventh, the Eagles scored its lone run of the contest on a sacrifice-fly. In the bottom of the seventh, the Lions tallied four more runs with a pair of bases-loaded walks and a two-run single to right field by senior
Thomas DeBrower. Embry-Riddle was locked down for the remainder of the game as it was held hitless for the remainder of the game.
On the mound, junior Howard Flynn started and pitched 7.0 innings. He struck out four batters and allowed one run (earned) on just three hits. In relief, freshman
Aiden Smarrito had 2.0 innings of work and posted one strikeout.
In game two with runners on first and second and the score tied 2-2 in the bottom of the ninth, DeBrower laced a walk-off single that scored pinch runner junior
Eli Vickers from second base, 3-2.
On the mound, junior
Cian Phillips started and posted six strikeouts in 7.0 innings as he surrendered two runs (one earned) on six hits. Additionally, Phillips was dealt a no-decision. In relief, junior
Jackson Wohlers pitched 2.0 innings and collected three strikeouts while earning the win.
The Lions return to action on Tuesday, April 7 as it hosts Eckerd in a non-conference game starting at 6 p.m.
