SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team collected a 5-4 walk-off victory following a throwing error by Barry in the series-opener on Friday night in Sunshine State Conference (SSC) action.
In the bottom of the ninth with base runners at first and second, junior
Camdin Jansen singled on a bunt that was followed by a throwing error by the Buccaneers' pitcher which allowed senior Thomas Debrower to score from third base to seal the Saint Leo victory to open up the series.
In the first, the Lions blasted a pair of two-run jacks as senior
Dylan Mass went yard on the first pitch he saw before classmate
Ryan Crivello hit an opposite field homer as the Lions led by a 4-0 margin.
In the eighth, Barry cut its deficit to 4-3 after a bases-clearing double left field line. During the ninth, the Buccaneers tied the game with an RBI-triple. A pair of singles by the Lions set up the game-sealing run from DeBrower in the ninth.
On the mound, junior
Flynn Howard started and pitched 7.1 innings. He surrendered three runs (all earned) on eight hits while striking out six batters. In relief, freshman
Parker Hohnstock had 1.2 innings of work and registered four strikeouts.
The Green & Gold return to the diamond tomorrow, Saturday, March 21 as it concludes its series versus Barry with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m.
