Baseball Captures Series with Doubleheader Sweep of Palm Beach Atlantic

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball captured its series versus Palm Beach Atlantic in a Sunshine State Conference (SSC) doubleheader on Saturday afternoon. The Lions won game one by a 6-1 followed by a 9-2 victory in game two.

In game one, the Green and Gold took a 2-0 lead following a sacrifice-fly from junior Abrahan Rios and an RBI-single by senior Ryan Crivello. During the fifth, junior Camden Jansen blasted a three-run homer to deep left field to give the Lions a 5-0 cushion. The Sailfish tallied a run in the bottom of the fifth to cut the lead to 5-1. Rios laced an RBI-single to right field to extend the Saint Leo to 6-1 in the seventh.

On the mound, junior Flynn Howard started and pitched 8.0 innings and posted seven strikeouts while allowing one run (earned) on three hits to collect the win.

In game two, Saint Leo gain a 2-0 lead after Rios knocked in a pair of runs after a single to left center. In the third, the Lions mounted a 4-0 margin following a sacrifice-fly from senior Thomas DeBrower and an RBI-double by Rios. During the fourth, Palm Beach Atlantic trimmed its deficit to 4-1. Senior Roberto Odor registered a sacrifice-bunt that scored Crivello, 5-1. Rios batted in a pair of runs with a single to center field in the seventh followed by a sacrifice-fly from Crivello (8-1). In the eighth, Odor scored on an error to give the Lions a 9-1 lead. Palm Beach Atlantic only mustered one run for the reminder for the rest of game.

On the bump, senior Jake Rytcher started and produced 2.0 innings of work. In relief, junior Cain Phillips pitched 6.0 innings and surrendered one run (earned) on five hits. Sophomore Ricky O'Dette posted two strikeouts in 1.0 innings.

Saint Leo returns to action on Tuesday, March 17 as it travels to Valdosta State for a non-conference bout starting at 5 p.m.
