SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo baseball team defeated Parkside in both games of the doubleheader on Saturday afternoon with a 14-4 win in game one followed by a 3-1 victory in game two. With both wins, the Lions captured the series and collected their seven-straight win.
In game one, the Lions ignited to a 7-0 lead in the first that was highlighted by a three-run single by senior
Thomas DeBrower. The Lions extended their advantage to 9-0 in the third after an RBI-double from DeBrower and a sacrifice-fly from senior
Ryan Crivello. During the fourt, senior
Dylan Mass tripled and knocked in two runs to give Saint Leo an 11-0 edge.
However, the Rangers answered with four runs in the sixth. In the bottom of the sixth, the Lions scored a trio of runs to run-rule Parkside in the seventh.
On the mound, freshman
Collin Lock started and collected the win in 5.2 innings of work with four strikeouts while allowing four runs (all earned) on hour hits. In relief, junior
Jackson Wohlers punched out three batters in 1.1 innings.
During game two, the Rangers claimed an early 1-0 lead in the second following a double down left field line and maintained the lead for most of the game until senior
Roberto Odor tied the game with an RBI-single to left field. Junior
Camdin Jansen gave the Lions a 3-1 cushion with a two-run double later in the sixth en route to Saint Leo earning the win.
On the hill, senior
Matt Delph started and pitched 3.0 innings while posting one strikeout and surrendering one run (earned) on five hits. In relief, freshman
Parker Hohnstock pitched 6.0 innings as he collected the victory and moved to 2-0 on the year with four strikeouts.
Saint Leo will conclude its series with Parkside tomorrow, Sunday, February 15 with a single game starting at 12 p.m.
