Harclerode Sets SSC Career Saves Record as #10 Women's Lacrosse Downs Colorado Mesa, 17-7

SAINT LEO, Fla. - #10 Saint Leo University women's lacrosse earned its first win of the 2026 season with a dominating 17-7 final over the visiting Colorado Mesa Mavericks. Senior goalie Jessica Harclerode made SSC history on Tuesday evening when she recorded her fourth save of the evening. She now holds the all-time SSC career record for saves with 509. Offensively, Sophia Wood led the Lions attack with four goals and as she was a perfect 2-for-2 on free position shots. The Lions improve to 1-1 overall while the Mavericks begin the season 0-1.

Saint Leo was paced offensively by Sophia Wood and Holly Hill, who each finished the night with four points. Wood had four goals while Hill had three assists to go with a goal. In total nine Lions found the back of the net. Freshman Samantha Overs scored her first collegiate goal in the fourth quarter. Freshman goalie Jordan Rose made her first collegiate save as she entered the game early in the final quarter.

Harclerode's eight-save performance moved her in sole possession of the all-time SSC career save leader. With her fourth goal on Tuesday night, she passed Florida Tech's Stephanie Stuart, who recorded 504 career saves in 71 games. Harclerode needed just 15 less games to achieve the feat as she did it in just 56 games.

#10 Saint Leo 17, Colorado Mesa 7
Saint Leo wasted no time setting the tone, jumping out to an early lead behind balanced scoring and strong defensive pressure. The Lions controlled the opening draw and capitalized on early free-position opportunities to build momentum. Colorado Mesa answered midway through the quarter, but Saint Leo closed the period on a scoring run to take control after one.

In the second quarter, the Lions continued to dictate pace on both ends of the field. Sophia Wood and Jana Nuss sparked the offense with timely finishes, while the defensive unit limited clean looks in transition. Midway through the period, Jessica Harclerode recorded her fourth save of the night, officially setting the Sunshine State Conference career saves record and surpassing Florida Tech's Stephanie Stuart.

Coming out of the break, Saint Leo extended its lead with crisp ball movement and disciplined possession. Grace DeWitt and Holly Hill contributed key goals during a decisive third-quarter stretch, while the Lions continued to win the draw battle and control tempo. Harclerode added to her record total with several steady stops to prevent any Colorado Mesa comeback momentum.

In the fourth quarter, Saint Leo closed the door with continued offensive balance and strong clears. The Lions maintained composure defensively and finished the night with a complete team effort, highlighted by Harclerode's historic performance in goal and a multi-player scoring showcase.
