Baseball Splits Season Opening Doubleheader at Augusta

AUGUSTA, Ga. – The Saint Leo baseball team opened the 2026 season on the road Saturday at Augusta in non-conference action, splitting a doubleheader after a dominant 14-1 victory in the opener before falling 6-4 in game two.

During game one, the Lions wasted little time setting the tone in game one with four runs in the first inning. Senior Ryan Crivello drove in two runs with a double to right center followed senior Ryan Jackson with an RBI-single to left field before senior Dylan Mass walked and drove in a run with the bases loaded. Augusta answered with just one run in the bottom of the first, however, the Lions went on to score 10 unanswered runs for a 14-1 victory.

On the mound, junior Flynn Howard pitched 5.0 innings and struck out eight batters while only allowing one run (unearned) on five hits. In relief, junior Cian Phillips tallied four strikeouts in 2.0 innings.

In game two, the Lions took an early 1-0 lead as Crivello crossed home plate on an error. In the bottom of the first, the Jaguars tied the game 1-1. In the second inning, junior Abrahan Rios notched an RBI-double to left center and then in the sixth, junior Colton Musgrave scored on a fielder's choice before senior Amai Rivera-Martinez drove in Crivello on a single to center field that gave the Green and Gold a 4-2 advantage. However, over the next two innings, Augusta tallied four runs to secure a 6-4 win.

On the mound, freshman Collin Lock earned his first collegiate start as he pitched 3.0 innings and posted one strikeout with six hits and two runs (both earned). In relief, senior Matt Delph had 3.0 innings of work and notched four strikeouts and surrendered two runs on three hits. Junior Jackson Wohlers was dealt the loss as he allowed two runs (both earned). Freshman Parker Hohnstock pitched 2.0 innings and struck out four batters.

The Lions will return to action on Friday, Feb. 6 as they host Colorado Christian is non-league play at 3 p.m.
