SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo women's basketball fell the Lynn Fighting Knights at home by a score of 68-60.
First Quarter
Saint Leo opened the game with strong energy and interior presence, attacking the paint early to keep pace with Lynn's perimeter shooting. Freshman Zoe O'Leary established herself on the glass, while freshman Jailenn Green pushed the tempo and created scoring chances in transition. The Lions matched Lynn possession for possession for much of the quarter. Lynn connected on late three-pointers to gain a 25-20 lead heading into the second.
Second Quarter
Saint Leo continued to defend with effort in the second quarter, and generated quality looks but allowed Lynn to stretch the lead. Saint Leo went into halftime facing a 14 point deficit 38-24.
Third Quarter
Saint Leo responded coming out of the break with renewed urgency and physicality on both ends of the floor. Green led the charge by attacking downhill and drawing contact, while junior Olivia Agunzo provided a spark with timely scoring. The Lions' defensive pressure created turnovers and fueled a 17 point quarter that cut the deficit to single digits. Saint Leo's improved ball movement led to better shot quality as momentum shifted. The Lions entered the fourth quarter trailing 48-41
Fourth Quarter
The final quarter saw Green and O'Leary combined to pressure the rim, while the Lions forced Lynn into difficult possessions. Despite the push, Lynn answered with timely free throws and a late three pointer to regain control. Saint Leo fought to the final buzzer, scoring 19 points in the quarter and tenacious on ball pressure. The women's basketball team fell 68-60.
