SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo men's basketball team fell to Eckerd College, 85–67, in a Sunshine State Conference matchup Wednesday night at the Marion Bowman Center.
The Lions went toe-to-toe with the Tritons throughout the opening half in a tightly contested period that featured nine ties and 10 lead changes. Saint Leo went into the locker room trailing by just one point, 36–35, after a competitive first 20 minutes.
Eckerd gained momentum early in the second half and built a double-digit advantage. The Tritons shot over 60 percent from the floor in the second half and used timely three-point shooting and transition offense to pull away.
Junior Luther Smith Jr. led the Lions with a game-high 23 points, including a perfect 10-for-10 performance at the free-throw line. Senior Donovan Hill followed with 17 points, while classmate Matt Ansah added 10 points off the bench. Senior Owen Pawlikowski paced Saint Leo on the glass with eight rebounds.
