SAINT LEO, Fla. – The Saint Leo University Softball team closed out the 2025 regular season with a dramatic doubleheader split with the Eckerd College Tritons on Saturday afternoon at Mary Cannon Cabot Softball Stadium. It took 13 innings, but the Lions secured the series victory over Eckerd to finish the regular season. With the split, Saint Leo finishes the regular season 38-12 overall and 21-9 in SSC play. While Eckerd finishes their season 30-20 overall and 16-14 in SSC play. Following the second game, the Lions honored their senior class of 2025 with a post-game Senior Day ceremony. Saint Leo celebrated Jayla Brooks, Hope Epps, Caroline Barwick, and Shyanne Waller for their contributions to the Green and Gold over the past four years.
In the first game, only three Lions recorded a hit, with Briana Neal recording a third-inning single which drove in the lone run of the game. In the circle, Chloe Hocquard went four and two-thirds innings, allowing three runs (two earned), while striking out two batters. Bella DeJulio entered in relief in the fifth inning and pitched two and a third innings of one-run softball.
In the second game, Tierney Hocquard pitched the longest outing of her career. The junior right-hander went 13 innings, allowing four runs (three earned), while striking out five batters. Five Lions recorded multi-hit games in the rubber match of the series. Nia DeBenedittis led with three hits, while Neal followed with two hits and the game-winning RBI in the thirteenth inning. Sydney Cline had two hits, including an RBI double. Alexis Barber had two hits and a clutch RBI in the tenth inning, and Maddie Antioco had two hits of her own. Lindsay Corazzini recorded a hit and two RBI.

Cline doubled to left center in the bottom of the sixth inning to score Neal.

Moments after Cline's double, Lindsay Corazzini singled to center field, scoring pinch-runner Tegan Larrimore to tie the game at two.

In the bottom of the eighth, the Lions had the winning run on third base, but were unable to plate it.

T. Hocquard and the Saint Leo defense silenced the Tritons in the ninth inning with a quickly turned double play.

With two outs in the top of the tenth inning, Eckerd took a 4-2 lead with a two-run homerun.

Barber put the Lions back within one with an RBI single in the bottom of the tenth inning.

With the bases loaded and one out, Corazzini flied out to left to send Neal home to tie the game at four.

Barber and Waller turned an impressive double play to end the top of the twelfth inning with the game still tied at four.

With two runners in scoring position in the bottom of the thirteenth inning, Neal reached on a fielding error which allowed DeBenedittis to come across home plate to win the game for the Lions.

Saint Leo will await its placement in the 2025 NCAA Division II Softball regional tournament. As of the latest rankings, the Lions were ranked second in the South Region. The NCAA Selection Show will take place on Monday, May 5th, at 10 a.m. on NCAA.com.
