SAINT LEO, Fla. – Tierney Hocquard pitched a complete game, one-hit shutout as the fourteenth-ranked Saint Leo University Softball team earned a tightly contested 1-0 win against the Eckerd College Tritons on Friday evening at Mary Cannon Cabot Softball Stadium. With its twelfth shutout victory of the season, Saint Leo improves to 37-11 overall and 20-8 in SSC play. With their loss, Eckerd falls to 29-19 overall and 15-13 in SSC play.
In the circle, Tierney Hocquard tossed one of the best games of her career, earning her thirteenth win in the process. The junior pitched a complete game for the eleventh time this season and a shutout for the fifth time. The Lions were limited offensively as the Tritons' starting pitcher, Brandilyn Reymer, also pitched an incredible game. Only three Lions recorded a hit, with Nia DeBenedittis delivering the game-winning RBI with a fourth-inning single.

It was a pitcher's duel early, as both sides allowed a combined five base runners while only two total hits in the first three innings.

DeBenedittis broke the ice in the fourth inning by singling home sophomore Sydney Cline to give the Lions a 1-0 lead.

T. Hocquard continued her dominance into the later innings by retiring six of seven batters she faced in the fifth and sixth innings.

Saint Leo was unable to add any insurance runs to their lead, as the last six batters were retired.

T. Hocquard and the Saint Leo defense quickly shut down Eckerd in the seventh inning to secure the victory.
UP NEXT
Saint Leo and Eckerd return to the field tomorrow, Saturday, May 3, to complete their series with a doubleheader. The first pitch is scheduled for noon, and Saint Leo Softball will honor its 2025 Senior Class after the conclusion of the second game.
